What is Edison Format?

Edison Format gets its name from the only Shonen Jump Championship (SJC) to take place during this time period, the 75th SJC in Edison, New Jersey which occurred April 24-25, 2010. This event marked the end of an era because it was the final and highest attended SJC with 2,175 participants, from then on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) would replace the SJCs.

Jeff Jones Holding the SJC - Edison Prize Card, Dark End Dragon

Quickdraw Dandywarrior, piloted by Jeff Jones, won the SJ - Edison Championship but the top 16 decks from the event were extraordinarily diverse. This, coupled with how short the format was, no clear best deck emerged. Edison is a great retro format because it is a high skill ceiling similar to Goat and the format is open enough that the brewers and non-meta players alike will have something to whet their appetites with. Sadly this renowned format was a short one, lasting only from the release of the March 1, 2010, (TCG) Forbidden and Limited List until May 10, 2010, the day before The Shining Darkness set Released in North America and drastically shifted the meta.
