What Deck to Play?
So you want to dip your toes into Edison Format and get a feel for the format? Your biggest priority will be adjusting to the relevant strategies and high impact cards. We advise you begin your venture with a streamlined game plan. Once you've settled on a Deck you like, be sure to check out the Individual Card Rulings for important pieces of your Deck - some cards may have functionally different effects in Edison Format relative to their modern day errata. Finally, you'll want to acquaint yourself with Edison Format's 7-timing Damage Step, as "Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow" and "Honest" can decide your victories as easily as misplaying their effects can spell your doom!
COMBO : birds of a feather
Blackwings are able to apply tremendous pressure with their effects and powerful support card "Black Whirlwind". The strategy is quite simple: Summon monsters, attack your opponent's defenses, and use "Icarus Attack" to destroy your opponent's resources as they attempt to swing the game back in their favour. The consistency with which Blackwings are able to search specific members to hand allows the Deck to cut back on redundant copies of searchable monsters in favour of incorporating powerful Spell / Trap Cards which cannot be searched. This toolbox utility, combined with the ability to play many of the most powerful (Limited and Semi-Limited) cards at the time ensured that Blackwings would find themselves among the top tables of historic and contemporary tournaments.

COMBO: judgment of the light
Lightsworns are responsible for the most powerful Flip Monster in all of Edison Format - "Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter". What more needs to be said? Ryko offers targeted removal of ANY card, Celestia furthers this advantage, and all the while you're milling cards from your Deck to fill the Graveyard with enough Lightsworn names to allow the Summon of "Judgment Dragon". Though "Charge of the Light Brigade" may be Limited to 1 copy, Lightsworns were able to take top spots in both historic and contemporary tournaments! The Deck is able to make great use of any cards with effects that can be used from the Graveyard, almost as if you have a second hand of cards to play with! Just be careful not to mill all your cards before you're able to seal your victory!

CONTROL: a drill to pierce the heavens
As a less aggressive strategy, Quickdraw Dandywarrior utilizes "Quickdraw Synchron's" ability to help Summon the Warrior family of Synchro Monsters, especially focusing on "Drill Warrior" for its ability to both attack directly and also discard dead cards from your hand to remove itself from play, replacing that dead card with any monster of your choice from your Graveyard upon its return. The combination of constant chip damage, as well as the ability to protect your most useful Synchro Monsters from attempts your opponent might make on their turn to wipe the board clean. The strategy synergizes well with the Debris-Plant engine, enabling additional utility for "Dandylion" to produce Level 7 Dragon-type Synchros via "Debris Dragon". The ability to loop monsters with "Drill Warrior" to maintain advantage propelled the deck to 1st Place at SJC Edison, inspiring novel variants to see play to this day!

CONTROL: Avē Imperātor, moritūrī tē salūtant
Gladiator Beasts possess the ability to play like aggressive combo decks but can also be played as reliable control strategies. After engaging in a battle (performing the Damage Step), these monsters "tag out" during the End of the Battle Phase to recruit new Gladiators from the Deck whose effects will then activate! A slow game plan where these effects are used to maintain card advantage every turn while sitting behind a set "Gladiator Beast War Chariot" has allowed the Deck to secure top positions in historic and modern events. Lastly, ace monster "Gladiator Beast Gyzarus" is a contact fusion that can destroy up to two cards when Special Summoned. This effect will still resolve successfully if "Gladiator Beast Darius" is flipped face-down upon reviving Gyzarus from the Graveyard!
