RULES UPDATE: Trigger Effect Location & MID-CHAIN Triggers!

If you're familiar with contemporary Yugioh, you know that monsters with Trigger Effects need to remain in their trigger location until they are able to activate in a new chain.

Those familiar with Goat Format know that Trigger Effects (which don't miss the timing) can meet their trigger condition mid-chain will still activate in the next available chain, even if that card is moved from its original trigger location during the chain (including if it was shuffled into the Deck!).

Recent archeological findings suggest these Goat Format rulings concerning Trigger Effect Location actually extend into Edison Format and beyond! Click "Read More" to learn the full story!
The Ancient Prophecy Sneak Peek Card Rulings Document (circa Aug. 2009) describes the interaction between "Future Visions" and "Necroface". Since "Necroface's" effect, which shuffles all cards that have been removed from play into the Deck, triggers upon Normal Summon simultaneously with "Future Visions's" Trigger-like Effect, the Chain Links can be build two ways:
  • Scenario 1: If you Normal Summon “Necroface” while “Future Visions” is face-up and activate the effect of “Future Visions” as Chain Link 1, “Necroface” will return all removed from play cards to the Deck(s) and will then be removed from play itself by "Future Visions". After the Chain has resolved, the effect of “Necroface” to remove cards from the Deck will activate since “Necroface” had been removed from play by “Future Visions.”
  • Scenario 2 (as it appears in the Document): If you Normal Summon “Necroface” while “Future Visions” is face-up and activate the effect of “Necroface” as Chain Link 1, “Necroface” will return itself to the Deck. After the Chain has resolved, the effect of “Necroface” to remove cards from the Deck will activate since “Necroface” had been removed from play by “Future Visions.”

This tells us that Trigger Effects (which don't miss the timing nor specify that they must remain in their trigger location in order to activate / resolve) would still get a chance to activate! The above statements suggest that it is possible to trigger the effects of "The White Stone of Legend" or "Dandylion" by discarding them as cost and targetting them with "Monster Reincarnation", causing them to meet their trigger condition mid-chain. We should also consider this: can effects fail to trigger if they only recognized their trigger condition AFTER being returned to the Deck?
Well before the introduction of "Reborn Tengu" in Extreme Victory, "Earthbound Immortal Aslla Piscu" would actually distinguish between public / private knowledge locations, as the relevant Sneak Peak Document confirms:
"If “Earthbound Immortal Aslla Piscu” is returned to the Deck from the field (by "Phoenix Wing Wind Blast"), its effect to destroy monsters and inflict damage DOES NOT activate."
The term 'location' is used describe areas within the game:
  • public knowledge locations comprise the field, Graveyard, and removed from play (face-up);
  • private knowledge locations comprise the hand, Deck, and face-down removed from play.

It would come to pass in 2012 that an official statement on the Dandylion v. Monster Reincarnation interaction would be issued in the OCG (reference). Since then, trigger location has only become increasingly important and strict regarding Trigger Effects - as any player of contemporary Yugioh can tell you.

From these findings, we can surmise that Edison Format is to be played in accordance with the Necroface v. Future Visions ruling (circa 2009), and NOT the 2011 Tengu ruling, nor the 2012 Dandylion v. Monster Reincarnation ruling. Keep this in mind and see what exploits you can find!
